BODY MOVEMENT IS BASED ON CONTROLLING THE BODY AXIS IN THIS POSTURE. IN WHICH POSTURE OF GENSEIRYU KARATE-DO CAN YOU CONTROL THE DISTANCE?
Genseiryu Karate-do has its own specialized posture, which you cannot use in nowadays games, but in a real fight you can use this much more effectively, by increasing your power and physique through changes in your body axis while moving.
HOTATE GAMAE
Hotate-Gamae (raising a sail) is the only special posture in the style of Genseiryu Karate-do (see picture 3 and 4). The important point of this posture is the use of the front hand, which is adapted for effectiveness in a real fight.
By using the front hand you can control the enemy’s attack to the right and left as well as up and down. While controlling the enemy this way, you can turn around and close the distance (Ma-ai) applying your counterattack (pictures 5, 6 and 7).
Kunihiko Tosa explains: “It is best to keep your wrist perpendicularly against the ground as long as you can”.
NUKITE GAMAE
In Shukumine no Bassai, every posture is using the Nukite Gamae (picture 8). Aiming both hands towards the enemy’s eyes while striking with Nukite.
In self-defense situations you could use the hand as a Shuto-uke (palm) to divert your enemy’s attack by moving the hand softly as a whip. In some way, this move is more similar to the Chinese Kempo than that of Karate-do (pictures 9 and 10).
At the same time as attacking the enemy’s throat or eyes using the other hand (Nukite), block the enemy’s Tsuki or Mae-geri by using your front hand (Shotei).
In posture of Neko Ashi Dachi the point is to keep it until sliding your toe forward, changing the posture into the Kokutsu-dachi (pictures 11-1 and 11-2).
The reason for this movement is the ability to counterattack easily using Mae-geri, even if you are attacked while changing your posture. Changes of your body posture should be around your body axis
BODY MOVEMENT IS BASED ON CONTROLLING THE BODY AXIS IN THIS POSTURE. IN WHICH POSTURE OF GENSEIRYU KARATE-DO CAN YOU CONTROL THE DISTANCE?
So-ou Ma-ai is the minimum distance to the enemy. You can make your attacks or defense effective with one-step movements towards the front and rear.
Yudo Ma-ai is the middle guiding distance to the enemy. Keep one and a half step distance to the enemy.
Genkai Ma-ai is the maximum limit of distance to the enemy. Keep two steps distance to the enemy.
By keeping in mind the three categones, you can keep the advantage by controlling Ma-ai through the use of one or a combination of either of them.
